Seniors Plan Picnic at White Pines State Park

Seniors meet in the cafeteria on May 3 for a class meeting presided by President John Michel. Plans and dues were discussed, and May 21 was set as the picnic date with private cars allowed.

Romans Hold Annual Banquet By Latin Club

The Latin Club hosted its annual Roman banquet on April 30 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Bill Scott opened with an invocation, a style show featured all members, and freshmen served a gala dinner. A boys quartet sang, followed by a rendition by David Clark and a piano duet by Mary Oglevee and Roger Eshleman.

Dramatic Club Plans Visit To See Romeo And Juliet

Thirty four Dramatic Club members plus Miss Larson will visit the University of Illinois on May 16 to view Romeo and Juliet staged by the Illini Theatre Guild. The Globe Theatre replica set and Thattuck directs the Shakespearean production. new members listed.

Future Farmers Dairy Judging Contest in Sterling

The FFA dairy division held a cattle judging contest in Sterling on May 3, 1951. Teams from Lee White Side and Carroll counties competed in eight rings covering Holstein Brown Swiss Guernsey and Jersey cattle. Judge Mr Oxel Madsen of Kewaunee Illinois scored participants based on the Illinois system.

Robed Choir Active in Month of Performances and Contests

Under director William Tonkin the Robed Choir has delivered concerts and competed in contests. Members won first place at district level on March 31 and earned state firsts for Gould Slothower and Girls Ensemble, with Dudley and Boys Quartet taking seconds. A May 22 spring concert includes patriotic numbers.

SHS Plans On Air Concert With Mixed Quintet Trio

Band members will perform on the air with several SHS music groups in the near future. The program includes a mixed clarinet quintet featuring Pat Batcheller Don Stewart Ann Farrer Jeanne Marshang and Nancy Forquer a french horn trio with Sylvia Bawden Mary Lou Oglevee and Lorraine Elmendorf and a marimba solo by Ruth Kimball. On May 22 thirty five band members not in the robed choir will join the choir for its spring concert.

Hi Tri Club Monthly Meeting at Y W C A

The Hi-Tri monthly meeting April 12 at the Y W C A started with a pot luck supper followed by a business meeting presided by Sally Mosher. Members discussed a bake sale and future plans while Miss Jan Headnant spoke on secretarial work as a career and encouraged interest.

Alumna crowned Lions queen in Illinois contest

Miss Marjorie Cameron, SHS 1948 graduate, was crowned queen of the Lions Clubs of Illinois at Chicago on April 30. The Northwestern University speech major was crowned by actor John Agar and had been Lions Queen of district 1-D in Rockford on April 14. She will compete in the national contest in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Sterling High Band Hosts Spring Concert Moves to Col iseum

Sterling High School concert band directed by Darrell Dunham presented a formal Spring Concert on May 10 at 8 15 p m in the Sterling Coliseum. Highlights included Smoke Gets in Your Eyes Stars and Stripes Forever and songs from South Pacific plus Dancing in the Dark. Soloist John Sunday performed Blue Bells of Scotland with the band and student committee helped plan the second half of the program.

Future Teachers Club Organizes at SHS

The Future Teachers Club of SHS formed in the second semester with daily activities. Members planned a Bloomington trip to see the Passion Play on April 22 and sent Alice Freas and Theresa Barajas to the state meeting at Augustana College on April 28.
