Four STHS Students Win Top Honors at District Science Fair
Four STHS students earned awards. Lucian Vittori won the Air Force Medal and Navy Cruiser Award at the DeKalb District Science Fair, while Connie Dettman earned a first division award for paper chromatography. Both advanced to the State Science Fair in Champaign. Rae Minson and Larry Hurd won DECA top honors. Rae earned national demonstration honors and Larry qualified for the National Convention after winning DECA Student of the Year and DECA Foundation Scholarship in Illinois.

The University of Wyoming Department of Physics offers a fourteenth annual enrichment program for high school juniors in physics and mathematics with courses up to sophomore level plus computer science electronics biology and physical technology. Guidance Staff Helps Freshmen Plan Careers
Debbie Schroeder reports STHS guidance staff meet with entering freshmen and parents over two weeks. They provide a Meet Your Secondary School Counselor brochure and a general information bulletin on fees insurance exams uniforms tickets and activities. Much time covers interpretation of the Iowa Test of Educational Development and upcoming year course selections. Freshmen are urged to visit the counselor early to start educational and career planning and seek personal counseling as needed.
