The Camera Club sponsors a photo contest starting February 2 offering prizes of 5, 3, and 2 dollars. Entries must depict school life around Sterling Township High School, not portraits, with up to four pictures per member and a 25 cent entry fee.
SHS students perform Fire Mission an original play by James Haake and head to state after placing second at the Peoria Sectional Speech Contest on March 13. Cast includes Tom Foudree Dick Cox Jerry Rothstein Dave Swehla Tusi Tuallii Bill Clithero Dick Kohl directed by Paul Clopper.
A spring column notes patches of green grass and tulips signaling warmer days. It reflects on personal joy for spring and the Christian Easter theme of Jesus rising and returning to God, as local Christians welcome the season.
Lent lasts forty days from Ash Wednesday March 3 to Easter April 18 with fasting prayer and devotion. Palm Sunday opens Holy Week seven days before Easter, culminating in Easter Sunday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and new life.

The Robed Choir stages Olivet to Calvary on Palm Sunday at 3 30 p m in St Johns Church. The program traces Jesus last days from Palm Sunday through Calvary with solos by Nancy Crofton Mary Espinoza Sandra Geiseman Joanne Nicholson Ruth Williams Retta Wilson Jim Baird John DeWind Alan Hall and Ronald Newell.
Seniors urged to cooperate for the annual Senior Dance set for April 24. Students may volunteer for decor decorations arrangements publicity refreshments floorshow and tickets with committee chairs listed: Dick Schuman Myrle West Les Weinstine Rose Meinen June Kirby Alan Hall Joan Bowers Lois O'Brien Shirley Seidel Miss Burritt and Margo Dillon.
This morning during homeroom twelve juniors and seniors were inducted into the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists in the Library. New members include Sheila Musgrove Sally Kannaka Judy Penley Charlice Buyers Carol Swartley Cynthia Grennen Sylvia Schom Herb Reed Bill Clithero Margo Dillon John DeWind with awards to Joan Bowers and Alan Hall for script and yearbook art.
On March 23 the Future Farmers of America held its nineteenth annual Parent-Son Banquet in the school cafeteria. Cliff Dettman led toast and introductions, Pete Hoogeveen gave the invocation, and Dean Long and Don Holloway directed singing.
