Twelve Latin students test in District Twelve contest
Twelve STHS Latin students participated in the District Latin Contest held at Sterling on Saturday March 7. Teacher Mr Tinley selected entrants across Latin levels 7 to IV. First year Jodie Hay Lois Frank Paul Scheneman. second year Dave Osborn Mark Parks Tom Johnson. third year Steve Dickinson Keith Benson Cathy Pickern. fourth year Ruth Cordier Brian Peterson Carolyn Marwol in the event. Superior ratings may lead to sectional and state qualifiers.

P E Teachers Visit Guilford High for Spring Workshop
Physical educators from Dixon Rock Falls Sterling and surrounding area attended the Northern District SAHPER spring workshop at Guilford High School Rockford. The program offered sessions across elementary to college levels including stunts tumbling dancing motor skills gymnastics rhythms volleyball basketball wrestling swimming and topics on handicapped swimming and drug abuse. 313 SAHPER members in the district with 203 attending.

Ande Lawrence reports that upperclassmen at Sterling High School favored the completely average person as the ideal date. Boys listed traits such as brown hair and average physical features, while girls chose no hair preference and average attributes. Both sexes praised personality over looks.

Zemke and Deets Fall in Illinois State Wrestling Tourney
Sterling wrestlers Jon Zemke and Roger Deets competed at the Illinois State Wrestling Tournament in Normal. Zemke won an opening bout but was pinned by Rick Boger in the 123-pound quarterfinals after earlier victory over Ken Devenaux. Deets lost his opener to Dave Cox, then was eliminated after a wrestleback by Klupa.

Drama students present the winter production Death Takes a Holiday by Casella adapted for the stage. Death takes human form while vacationing on earth and grows involved with Grazia as he seeks why humans fear him, experiencing love and emotion. the Sterling Coliseum hosts performances tonight and Saturday at 8:00 with set and costumes highlighted, tickets $1 adults $0.75 students.
