Robert Lee Accepts Faculty Position at HLS
Robert J. Lee has accepted a faculty position at HLS to replace two part time teachers in the Latin and English departments. He is a DuQuoin High School graduate with a BS from the University of Illinois and majors in Latin and English. Lee served three years in the Navy attaining Lt. j. g. and earned the American Theater ribbon Pacific Theater ribbon with three stars and the Victory Medal. He helped rescue the crew of a crashed plane off Okinawa while in command of a ship. He enjoys golf and steak and likes Sterling work at HLS, having found an apartment for his family.

Sophomores Present Peppermint Prance Dance at H. S.
H. S. gymnasium transformed into Candyland for the sophomores annual Peppermint Prance on February 2. An orchestra provided music while candy decorations and a floorshow featured Bill Jurkens master of ceremonies J Leadelle Shippee Anna mee Bell Marilyn Stone and a barber shop quartet. Chairman Bob Giffrow with Miss Mary Harris and Mr A J Twardock led the event praised by all as a sign the class of 1948 looks to bright future work.

Fifth Avenue Players Plan Three One Set Plays
The Fifth Avenue Players will present three one set plays in April under Doris Burritt. The proposed titles are Elmer by Beatrice Hamiston McNeil No Greater Love by William D Fisher and If Women Worked as Men Do by Ellen Goodfellow. Tryouts are the first part of March and close March 4. rehearsals begin after casts are chosen with April performances.

Magician To Entertain Students And Faculty At High School
An assembly program will entertain S. H. 8. students and faculty on March 12. Ralph Pierce, world famous magician, will present his Mad cap Magic at the high school.

Magician Pierce Completes Navy Service In Pacific Campaign
Mr. Pierce, released from the submarine division after two years of service, traveled 25 000 miles entertaining servicemen and hospital patients across the Marshalls, Marianas, Ryukyus, Japan, Hawaii, and other Pacific Islands. He claims the title of The First Magician in Occupied Japan and plans more zestful shows in Sterling.

Students Win Shorthand and Typing Awards at Event
Twelve students earned 30 word pins in typing and shorthand after the riot closure. Winners include Gilbert Fidalgo Mary Seloover and Harry Hubbard. The 8 H S Debate Club hosted a practice tournament February 23 at the high school for freshmen and sophomore teams from Mendota Geneseo Freeport Rockford and Sterling. Rockford won first place with Mendota second. Sterling members judged. Roger Larson named best speaker.

Two more senior boys, Bill Robinson and Donald Snavely, were chosen as Junior Rotarians. Bill played varsity basketball and football, belongs to the 8 club, serves as hall monitor, and attends other senior activities. Don is FFA officer active in Rural Hi-V and has high scholarship across four years at 8 H. 8. They have attended three Rotary meetings and will join a spring session.

Seniors Sponsor A Pipe Dream Dance
The seniors held their annual February 23 dance titled Pipe Dreams with about 75 couples dancing to Lawrence Morse's orchestra. The gym was themed Dreams with corner decorations and a floorshow directed by Sally Winn and presented by Tom Hoffman Jim Wolf Kenny Gould and Dick Keiser. Co chairs Lillian Jacobs and John Hay led a senior committee that delivered a delightful evening for the students.

Tuberculin Tests Conducted for Whiteside County Students
Tuberculin skin tests were administered to 304 students and six teachers on February 11 under the care of Dr. Neal Marquis and Dr. Dale Scott. Results came back February 13, with X-rays for some on February 19 and 20. The tests, free of charge, are sponsored by the Tuberculin Association in Whiteside County.
