Seniors Retire From Positions at SHS and Graduation
Sterling High School held graduation with 226 diplomas on May 31 at the SHS stadium. Guest speaker Dean Stanford of the University of Illinois spoke on "The Forward Look" while his father spoke at the principal’s first year. Student speaker Bill Wagner addressed "So Many Worlds". class president John Moore moderated. Baccalaureate on May 28 featured Reverend Carl Kalkwart at St. John’s Lutheran Church with choir performances including Tenebrae Factae Sunt and Praise to the Lord.

Four Students Elected To Lead Student Council
Spirited week of campaigning culminated in last Friday’s election of four students to lead next year’s Student Council. Junior Don Henson becomes president, replacing Pete Wheeler, with Dave Helms as vice president, Kenje Ogata as secretary, and Jim Wallace as treasurer. Each new officer brings broad activity in athletics, clubs, music, and community service, pledging to uphold the council’s expanding responsibilities.

The Co-ed Council meeting at Sterling Rock Falls YMCA elected next year’s officers. Susie Schick won the presidency, Judy Hitchcock the secretary, and Sherri Noon the treasurer. Vice president to be chosen in fall from new members. Barb Werner named publicity chairwoman.

Two SHS Stenos Honored At State University Award
Sterling Township High School named Judy Bragg and Carol Hudson among eight hundred seventy Shorthand I students in a statewide program. Tests at 70 words per minute spanned three minutes with a 14 words per minute transcription rate. Thirty six transcribed without error, two from Sterling High.

New Warrior Yearbook Honors Longtime SHS Superintendent
At Sterling Township High School a May 19 assembly introduced the 1961 Warrior yearbook dedicated to Roscoe Eades, SHS superintendent for 30 years. The redesigned volume, edited by Perry Duis and team, expands by turns with four full color photos and a 75 cent supplement for upcoming spring and graduation events.

Eades Honored By Alumni At Large SHS Banquet
The Sterling High School alumni banquet, billed as the largest in history with over 4,000 graduates attending, will be held June 10 in Sterling Coliseum. It honors Superintendent Rosco Eades on his retirement after more than 40 years on the faculty, with the Family Faculty Association and SHS Board of Education co sponsoring. Members of the Class of 1961 are invited to attend as new alumni.

Mist and Moonbeams Fantasia Prom Night at SHS
Prom goers drifted through SHS fieldhouse into Fantasia a magical world with a jeweled throne a glass slipper and princess dining. Hollywood premiere glamour drew celebrities past doormen to Sterling Theatre for opening night then the Post Prom Party returned guests as dawn approached.
