Year in Review at STHS Ends Year with Changes

The 1970-71 school year at STHS closes its first semester with notable events. Warrior basketball reached top state ranks, wrestlers sent two to state meets, and spring teams also qualified. The year saw a new absentee system, relaxed dress code, and several new teachers. Senior group The Majority formed, foreign exchange student Frode Fijeldberg excelled, and homecoming returned after seven years. Despite apathy, the SCRIPT published one strong issue.

Illinois Voters Weigh New Constitution In Second Round

Illinois voters went to the polls for the second time in two months to decide on a new state constitution, potential voting age change, death penalty repeal, and how judges are chosen. The document, drafted by a diverse group, outlines 14 Articles from Bill of Rights to General Provisions, with amendments possible by constitutional convention or ballot, needing three-fifths assembly approval and voter consent.

Other members wrote articles created ads and cartoons, then copyread retyped and pasted on dummy sheets before printing at Whiteside Area Vocational Center and returning the finished product to the class.

Junior Class Sale Proves Successful For Prom Fund

After Thanksgiving, the junior class sold 200 blue and gold sweaters and 48 blue jackets, nearly all within two weeks. Mr Lofgren, advisor, said no reorder due to shrinking demand and potential lining changes. The sale raised about 300 dollars for prom costs.
