The Sterling Rock Falls Jaycees promote Lock It and Pocket the Key to curb auto theft. Nationwide trends show high juvenile theft rates and many cars stolen from homes. The campaign uses posters billboards articles and radio to reach the public and urges drivers to lock doors take keys and close windows.
Roy Witherow explains the unit district concept for Sterling area's eight districts. A unit would consolidate boards and taxes, provide one budget and tax rate, and extend kindergarten through 12th grade continuity. It argues funding needs, potential state aid gains, and preserves local control while avoiding higher taxes or program cuts.

Students at Sterling High must clean room 180 after fourth and fifth hours to repair the lunch room's image. The mess offends visitors and risks the school’s reputation as colleges and others may judge the entire system by this area. Cleanup requires scrubbing tables sweeping floors and mopping, with a lengthy reconstruction effort.
