Spring Banquet to Feature Ray Page as Speaker
The STHS Education Association announces that State Superintendent Ray Page will speak at its Spring Banquet on May 2 at Emerald Hill Country Club Sterling. Wigginton, new association president, aims to bring in top education authorities next year to address current educator concerns and advance quality education for all youth.

Sterling High School Variety Show Lights Coliseum Tonight
The annual Sterling High School Variety Show sponsored by the Student Council benefits the American Field Service. Proceeds fund a foreign exchange student, Cezar Busatta of Brazil, featured with a guitar and interview. Showtimes are tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m. Tickets cost 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for children, available in the cafeteria or at the door.

Northwestern Illinois Thespians form first conference president
Wes Holly, a junior at Sterling Township High School, was elected the first president of the Northwestern Illinois Thespian Conference representing forty three high school troupes. The March 21 Ottawa meeting at Ottawa Township High School introduced Thespian activity and installed several new troupes.

Callighan Runner-Up in State Radio Speaking Contest
Debbie Howard notes STHS senior Phil Callighan finished second in the Radio Speaking division at the State Speech Contest held April 3 and 4 at Illinois State University Normal. The six finalists were narrowed from three prelim rounds with top two advancing to finals. Callighan was NCIC's sole placer and Sterling’s first first place finish in years.

Spring Concert Highlights From Sterling High Band
Sterling High School Instrumental Department presented its annual spring concert on April 2 at the Coliseum. The program featured Prologue by a senior, Chorale Prelude by Vincent Persichetti, and Mendelssohn’s Allegro for Clarinet with Jane Schuler. Pieces included March Grandioso, Sonatina for Band, Jubilation Overture, The Lover and the Rogue, Danza Final from Estancia, and Stage Band numbers Jump for Jennie Walk Wild Here’s Merv Call Me Irresponsible and Aquarius.
