Endicott Red Cross volunteers husked corn to raise funds for war relief. Chet McCurdy offered six cents a bushel to have them unload and snap, but the women worked with teams and wagons, bringing in 180 bushels by noon and 80 more by quitting time. Members not in the field cooked dinner at the M Eye church to help.
An October convoy of American transports to France faced boiler leaks causing a one day delay then return to port. The ship carried about 6000 men and reached safety with few cases of treasles and pneumonia. Harold Weddel of Arcadia Nebraska was aboard and remains in the U.S. awaiting orders.
Sheriff Rawles in Steele City issues a public notice urging all automobile owners and drivers to know and obey dimmer headlight and taillight requirements and speed limits. Enforcement will be strict from sundown to daylight and by state law, not local ordinance. Report violations to ensure compliance.

Edwin A Baybee born May 16 1827 in New York state died November 4 1987 at his grandson Perry Bugbee's home aged 90 years five months and 21 days. He leaves eight children thirty grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren.
