The Campbell-Cline Post 349 American Legion led a Decoration Day program on Wednesday May 30 at the Community Hall. The hall featured patriotic decor and veterans in uniform. Rev J E Filinzer gave an address and the event concluded with graveside services at the cemetery.
Helen Gregory departed Saturday for a visit with relatives in Fairbury and Lincoln.
The Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company faced a move to abandon its Endicott exchange and transfer patrons to Fairbury or Steele City with lower rates. Thirty-six of fifty-three Endicott patrons signed, 67 percent, under a law requiring 60 percent to abandon. The change would connect Endicott and Fairbury by telephone for business convenience.
Esther Gretzinger entertained a Sunday School class at her home in Dilller Saturday night for a slumber party. The event was described as a very enjoyable time by all who attended.
The Four H Club met at the home of Mrs. C. C. Andrews on Tuesday afternoon May 80 for an educational gathering. Members listed include Helen Funk Mira Alexa Lois Beulah Ina Ellison Edns Wehling Nettie Godden Patricia Shultz Mary Anderson and Marcella Sampson. The next meeting will be at Patricia Shultz's home.
Mr and Mrs N A Auld celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary at home in Steele City on Sunday May 27 with guests including Mr and Mrs George Hunnicutt and their young son from Fairbury Illinois Hunnicutt is daughter Minnie of Steele ty.
Frances Crinklaw and Pern Kiskaltae plan a day trip to Beatrice on Tuesday as recorded in local notes.
In Steele City the Hog Sale featured a Shire breed herd guided by Mr Hamley. Yesterday he sold 100 head averaging 380 pounds for about 920 dollars. Buyers gathered to admire the uniform size and perfect markings of the hogs.
Hollenburg visits his uncle Geo Baker and family while friends gather. Mrs Nina Oswald and Miss Ruth Huston shop in Hanover. The Chamben and Oswald families from Wyomore visit Sunday. Bernice Talbott returns from Emporia. Mrs Jennie Henderson leaves for Seneca for arm treatment. Ervin Parker improves after illness. Mrs Bert Eliston from Nebraska City visits Frank Martin. Daisy Shields from Abilene visits Eleanor Cissna. Mrs Bob McLain visits her mother Mary Cissna. George Singleton from Hanover cares for barber duties. Lucy and Anna Weber buy Jennie Henderson's church street property. Mrs Jennie Algeo arrives from Fort Collins to stay with Hollie Algeo. Homer Stevens returns from Sherd Henderson funeral in Denver. G R Barr attend Washington graduation. son Dean graduates. Joe Hoxie works at Shenandoah and visits Frank Hoxie, returns home. Will Jaggers and daughter Virginia visit from Lamb, Colorado. Jaggers to return Thursday and daughter remains about a month.
Sunday school at 10 a m and church service at 11 a m led by Pastor John E Filinger. Endeavor at 7 p m and preaching at 8 p m. One church for all, all for one church.
William C Adams aged 61 years 10 months 16 days died at his Endicott Nebraska home after four days illness. Born July 6 1866 in Whitehall Illinois he lived in Mahaska Kansas before moving to Endicott. Survived by wife Minnie and two children John Q Adams and Mrs T Rogers. daughter Lulu May Timmell predeceased. Funeral held at Endicott Methodist Church with Rev Lenker officiating burial in Steele City cemetery.
E Ig came back Sunday from Fairfax Missouri where he visited his daughter Mrs Emma Downs. He says his son in law Mr Downe had a very serious operation at a St Joseph hospital last week.
A large group of young folks surprised Pete Wenz on Wednesday night May 30 to celebrate his birthday. Games were played but weather interrupted the evening. lunch was served early and the guests wished him many more happy birthdays.
Vera Janssen will teach near Daykin next year. Perry Cuthbert visited his mother this week. Vera Esther Janssen and Mildred Kenning visited the Malady home Sunday afternoon. Many neighbors attended the funeral of W. C. Adams in Endicott Thursday.
The Good Will Sunday School class hosted a miscellaneous shower for Miss Grace Deems at Mrs. H. Manning's home. Seventeen members attended. A rainbow décor framed a pot of gold gift collection. After games and refreshments, the group visited Miss Deems to see her hope chest treasures.
Miss Lila McDonald, studying at Peru, returned home Wednesday to visit her parents Mr. and Mrs. C McDonald.
