Soldiers are to receive fewer rations as part of an ongoing wartime measure. The directive calls for prioritizing essential supplies and reducing nonessential provisions. Officials emphasize discipline and efficiency in distributing limited resources.
The Steele City Nebraska depot opened to the public on the 8th. The 24 by 60 foot building is larger than the old one and enhances the town’s appearance. It features 14 by 24 office, 18 by 24 waiting room, 24 by 28 wave room, express area, trainmen's rest room, plastered pink interior, four platform lights, and a semi sphere signal tower operated from the office. The platform extends 500 feet.
The Steele City stock yards near the railroad depot cover 120 by 90 feet, with three pens and multiple runways to handle stock efficiently. Since 1918 a total of 65 cars have shipped from Steele City including cattle hogs horses and sheep across five shipments.
Sunday is Easter and village election is set for next Tuesday. Rev J H Boggess will preach an Easter sermon at the M E church Sunday morning with special music directed by Misa Bessie Hoeft. Sunday school at the usual hour and Epworth League at 7 p m. An Easter program of music and readings will be presented at 7 30 p m by the Sunday school under Miss Hoeft. Candidates will be received into church fellowship Sunday morning. Mr Boggess preached Wednesday evening and will preach Friday evening. The public is invited. Mr and Mrs Boggesa attended a Noahs Ark social in Endicott Wednesday evening with Mr Gillett supervising.
