Mrs Ed Hughs fell ill Sunday night but is recovering well. PF W Lowe delivered a new boat or gear to Guy Cassell Saturday and will use it in the old business.
Local notices list residents traveling to Lincoln and Washington Kansas. Moves include Dr. Taylor visiting his mother and Nell Drake consulting a dentist. Church groups, sales, plant offerings, and community events mention Ladies Aid meetings and new theater programs.
The minister at the Presbyterian Church invites all to two timely Sunday sermons. He promises bold preaching, urging listeners to attend the evening service and seek deeper grace. The recent play New Minister drew strong turnout with proceeds around $166 and expenses about $120.
Beulah Drake and Margaret Bridwell taught the rural school. The Junior play At the End of the Lang' is set for March 30. The Senior class earned their pennant while Beulah Drake lost her class ring. Seniors plan pictures and invitations as Beulah Drake notes a debate with Ruskin at the Church Monday. The debate with Hebron is scheduled for Friday evening March 1.
A Monday night caucus at Mc Donalan Cafe set candidates for the Village Board ballot. Four residents Carl Townsend Anke Freruen Lew Wolf and Wm Bundy were rejected as candidates for the April 6 election.
Notice to Steele City owners to pay license fees totaling 9 dollars due April. Village marshal collects the license by the set date.
The play The New Minister drew a crowded house with nearly 200 reserved tickets sold and all seats filled. Forty performers showcased a realistic portrayal of securing a village minister and the pulpit’s challenges. Director Rev. W. W Pfautz and the cast earned congratulations as repeats were set for Steele City Mahasks and possible bookings in nearby towns.
The Stéele City Club ladies met at Mrs Hubert Manning's home last Thursday noon. Officers elected: President Mrs Manning, Vice President Mrs C C Andrews, Secretary Mrs Pv Hoeft, Treasurer Mrs Wilfrey. Four new members joined and April meeting will be at Mrs Andrews. Also noted an error in a prior Old Fiddlers contest list. a prize of 500 strawberry plants from Mr McCurdy was omitted. The plant prize may yield several dollars.
The village holds an election on April 6 at Pethouds Creamery open 9 to 7 to elect two trustees for two years. Fay Clark Village Clerk.
S. S. Clase Take Hike. The Sunday School class taught by Mrs. P. V. Hoeft hiked Saturday afternoon to Death Valley and other points. Eleven girls enjoyed a lunch of sandwiches, whinies, and pickles.
