Steele City notices report travels of residents to Fairbury and Marysville, visiting relatives in Parkville and Hay, church gatherings, school events, and civic plans. Electric plant talks resume with Martz Engineering. bond vote $3500 may fund a daytime setup with caveats on storage battery.
Stockholders led by Dr J S Taylor and R S Wilfley acquire full control of the Exchange Bank of Steele City. A new brick building 20 by 50 feet will be erected opposite the post office, with capital stock and surplus rising to 12 000 under the Farmers State Bank name. Dr Taylor serves as president and Wilfley as cashier, with plans for reorganization and growth to meet community needs.
Col. Clark arrived back from Booneville Missouri on Tuesday. Francis accompanied him to Robinson Kansas where he stayed over until the following day. The Endicott boys arrived Thursday afternoon and played the Steele City team in a baseball game, with results not yet known at press time.
A large crowd attended Decoration Day events in Steele City despite cloudy skies and muddy roads. A morning parade led to the cemetery where nine Civil War veterans, including E V Moore and Eli Schultz, laid flowers on graves after a song service. In the afternoon Reverend Worthley of Lincoln delivered a tribute at the opera house honoring the veterans who preserved the Union.
The Weather Bureau forecast generally fair conditions for the week starting April 21, 1915. Local rain may occur in the northern portion by Friday. Temperatures will rise gradually and move above normal early in the period.
Fresh Douglas Chocolates and Brick Cheese offered at Waters' Cafe along with Temples Quality Ice Cream. Hats discounted as stock is cleared for fall. Mrs E Hamley and the move to the furniture building welcome patrons. Weather note reports five wet days last week hindering farm work with more rain and alfalfa harvest pending.
