Prairie fire crosses state line near Kansas Nebr border

A brush fire burned parts of five to six pasture sections just across the state line on the 4th, covering about one section. Capt. Andrews returned to Boston with his daughter Mrs Bruce Meyers after a yearlong visit and his eyesight has returned. The State Historical Society plans monuments at the Kansas-Nebraska and Burlington crossings funded by landowner A Mayborn and Dawsons. County exhibits for the state fair face drought, crews work to keep top corn quality despite heat. Steele City hosts a baseball game against Diller with two-base hits by Bryant and Fouts. final score 15 to 5. T. C. Fireworks ban and Fourth of July festivities noted

The Steele City dealers agreed not to sell fireworks on the Fourth to prevent fires. A Fairbury funeral report follows a Justis barn fire near Steele City, with losses including a horse and farm goods. The Steele City July Fourth celebration featured a park program, a speech by Rev. Brooks, a Diller game, races, and music by the Odell band.
