The column notes persistent cold with little snow and a busy Fairbury scene. Items include church fund work, Tanlac ads, a cattle shipment, a Presbyterian manse project, community help with basement work, a January 18 marriage, choir cantata plans, and local notices.
Last Saturday C. G. Smith sold the fixtures and the business to Mr. E. N. Hewitt of near David City Neb. Hewitt is on a farm now and will hold a sale, move here and take possession within three or four weeks. He has rented the old Chancellor place in the south part of town. Smith is undecided about future plans and Steele City residents regret the departure of him and his wife.
C J Clark reports finishing a week long ice harvest yielding between 250 and 275 tons. The work produced slabs eight to ten inches thick and nearly flawless, promising a cheaper natural ice option next summer after two years relying on manufactured ice.
The report from Willey and Dawson notes a February 6 sale at the Jefferson County Fair with Poland China pigs. Prices reached high bids. traders emphasized broad low sales and multiple lots.
