Local briefs report social visits travel and events in Fairbury Nebraska and nearby communities. Items include visitors from Canada and Auburn, wedding attendance, a masked dance prizes, debate judges, moves and remodels, and family visits across Fairbury Diller Steele City and Harrison areas.
The Steele City team defeated Diller 3 to 0 in a league debate on Monday night at Diller. The Diller team fought hard and conducted themselves well in defeat. Steeles City credits coach Miss Smith for guidance and encouragement.
A church notice lists Sunday School at 4 10 A M and services at 11 A M 6 45 P M and 7 30 P M. It urges attendance during bad weather and invites parishioners to Lent as seed time for spiritual growth with a morning sermon titled Morning Visions.
Marion Packer is absent due to illness and many students miss days from the snow storm. Harry Daulton leaves for Fairbury. Edith Daulton also moves to Fairbury. Debaters miss event at Diller. Girl Reserve ring contest discussed. Steele City visits County Basket Ball Tournament at Fairbury High School and loses to Diller 24 to 5.
A local shop announces daily closing time of 7 P.M. with an exception for Wednesdays when hours may vary. The notice informs customers to plan purchases accordingly and check for any Wednesday changes.
Residents can hear premier acts at Steele City Lyceum starting March 26 in a four night series sponsored by Rev. Pfantz. Performers include Francis Larson soprano Harrietta Pyly violin Jean Bader bass Roy Wall baritone Richard Low Chinese singer and entertainer. Season tickets offer savings. single admission is 35 cents. Tickets at Arners Drug Store.
The Old Fiddlers Contest is set for March 6 at Steele City Opera House with many entries and more room. Prizes include 5 gal of auto oil, 5 gal of gas, a box of cigars from Mr. McDonald, and other merchandise prizes alongside cash awards.
Ronald Button, son of Bert Button formerly of Steele City, Nebraska, has achieved notable academic and professional milestones. He graduated from Stanford Law School, attends Harvard Law School for graduate work, and expects a Stanford JD next winter. He joins Parsons Law Club, serves as vice president of the National Association of Cosmopolitan Clubs, and is the youngest California Mason and Shriner.
