At Spring Hill school on Wednesday February 18 a Pie and Plate supper will be served with a program at 7 30 p m. Ladies are asked to bring pies and everyone is welcome. Dist 23 Leona Petsch, teacher.
Community briefs cover visits and illnesses in Steele City Fairbury and surrounding towns. Notable items include sales at Steele City, trips of residents to Lincoln Hubbell Wauneta and Kansas, birthdays and gatherings, a ghost story party, farewell for J H Adee, and discussions on electric lighting with Barnston Power Company proposals.
The Ladies Aid will meet Wednesday afternoon for a social gathering. Attendees are urged to be present to ensure a pleasant time.
Cornelius Johnson of Jefferson County topped the St. Joseph cattle market February 4 with a feeder sale at ten dollars per hundredweight. A yearling weighing 925 pounds drew the day's highest pricemaking Johnson the top buyer on the market that day.
The Carmichael damage suit against Jefferson County opened in district court Thursday. Mrs Carmichael seeks 25000 damages claiming injury from a buggy accident south of Kesterson and west of Rose Creek. Attorneys Barnes Rain for plaintiff and county attorney Denney for the county.
Steele City Presbyterian Church activity includes Sunday School 10 a.m., morning worship 11 a.m., Christian Endeavor 6:30 p.m., and evening service 7:30 p.m. Choir praise, large attendance and fund-raising totals are noted, along with Father and Son events. Missionary Society met with China work discussed and calls for fellowship and commitment.
A few longtime residents funded a headstone for Civil War veteran John Whitted who died December 24, 1922. The inscription notes his resting place in the local cemetery and mentions he had no living relatives after his wife passed away years earlier.
Local notice announces forthcoming price changes for new and renewal subscriptions to the Lincoln Star. It directs readers to renew before the new era prices take effect and mentions Friday Saturday and Sunday deadlines and home delivery.
