A store announces altered hours to align with fuel saving orders. It will open at 8 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. daily, extended to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, to conserve fuel under the Fuel Administrator’s directive and asks customers to adapt. Ships are at tidewater for coal to enable distribution.

A fire early Saturday morning tore through McDonnell's department store in Fairbury and Freeman's second hand shop next door.
