Local notes recount Fay Clark trip to Hubbell on Tuesday and various visits and gatherings around Fairbury, Lincoln, Hollenberg, Endicott, and Sabetha. Neighbors attend box social, bazaar fundraisers, lodge events, and family visits during the holiday period with several hometown trips and anniversaries noted.
First and second graders made Christmas dolls and decorations. Absent and tardy lists include Arner, Davis, Bryant, Silkett, Pethowd, Packers, Outhier, Shepard, Drake, Packer. Third to sixth grades study dates, store play, calendars for parents, and house planning. Sixth grade leads spelling. fifth and sixth grade make art envelopes. Home econ groups served Thanksgiving and Christmas breakfasts. Senior class received class rings. basketball tied Plymouth 4 to 4.
Steele City band will air a radio program from the Oak Nebraska station on Sunday afternoon December 20. This marks a second broadcast from the station and local listeners are urged to tune in to hear the Steele City talent in action.
A notice announces a program and plate social in District 58 on December 18 at 7 45 p.m. with teacher Helen Wehling coordinating the event.
The Ladies Aid will hold a special call meeting Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Forsha. All members are urged to attend.
The congregation voted to have Rev. W. W. Pfautz of Panama Nebraska fill the Steele City pulpit. He is not yet released from his present charge but is expected to come. residence likely after the new year with possible early pulpit service. church activities may gain new life with a regular minister and Steele City would gain Pfautz’s abilities.
Steele City opened the basketball season with a Friday night game at Plymouth ending in a 0 to 0 tie as neither team could reach four points. The next game will be hosted here against Reynolds High School.
A Friday evening December 4 meeting on road improvements drew few attendees due to bad weather. Businessmen's representation was weak, and any public graveling plan requires full cooperation of business people and farmers to succeed. Committees were appointed to seek a general expression.
Local residents attended the Ladies Aid bazaar and supper in Steele City last Wednesday with numerous social visits during the weekend. The community noted family visits, illness in Blue Springs, and attendance at a basketball game in Hollenberg as part of a busy period.
The John Kersting family spent Sunday afternoon at their daughter's home. Mrs. George Kruger and Mrs. Morey of Mahaska Kan came Sunday to spend the winter with daughter Mrs. M. O. Sampson. Mrs. Fay Clark is not improving and was taken to Lincoln Wednesday to consult a specialist.
