Local notes report Dr. Taylor’s Lincoln trip and nursing staff, several visits between Steele City and nearby towns, hay fever woes, naturalization filings, school openings delayed to September 13, and community events. Mentions of picnics, ice cream socials, theater by Clifton Comedy Co., and a furnace upgrade for the M E church.
Sealed bids for janitor duties at the school for the coming year are due by Monday September 1 1913. For details contact C R Bracken who will receive the bids.
The K P lodge schedules a Thursday night session for Sept 4 with all members urged to attend. School rooms have been rented in several local buildings near the K of P hall while a new building is completed. Funeral services were held for Mrs. McCoy of Herman Neb at the M E church in Hollenberg Kan with Rev. Tuma officiating. Mrs McCoy, 39, was a daughter of Captain Vaugt.
Four breeders from Nebraska will send Poland China hogs to the state fair next week. The consignments include fourteen head from W. E. Willey with a 800 pound boar and several sows and pigs, four hogs from Lloyd Taylor, five from Phil Dawson of Endicott, and five from W. E. Epley near Diller, including a sow about 18 months old weighing near 800 pounds.
A Winsted Connecticut resident returned to an empty dwelling to find only the bed inside. Believing his wife had rented another home, he bought firearms and flags and decorated the house in red white and blue. Neighbors heard pistols during the night and awoke to the patriotic scene. He said he was celebrating his wife’s retreat.
