Nebraska Legislature Closes Long Session With Sparse Attendance

The Nebraska legislature wrapped a long session with Senate adjournment at 11:45 and the House at 11:62. Only seven members from each chamber remained, with Lt. Gov. Barrows and Speaker Dalbey among the finishers. Officers presented gifts, McLeod received the speaker’s signet, and Gov. McKelvie signed H.R. 323 while outlining its safeguards against past voting flaws. The session approved printing 5,000 copies of the civil code bill, set codified publication terms, and outlined expenditures totaling about 16.1 million for the next two years, including highway and capital costs, with salary provisions and guard appropriations updated in the conference.
