Jefferson County Women to Raise Funds for Children's Home

The Women’s clubs of Jefferson county launch a two day drive from April 16 to 21 to fund a temporary $50,000 orphan’s home in Omaha for homeless children. County quota is $900, led by Mrs E L Jenkins with a district network including Mrs F A Houston and Mrs H F Hole and others. Since the society’s founding, 52 Jefferson children have been placed in state homes and 20 in local Jefferson county homes across many years.

Barneston Sees Third Major Fire In Three Months

In Gage county Barneston reports three costly fires in as many months. Easter Sunday saw a grain elevator burn, with losses around 5000 dollars. Wymore fire crews aided, preventing damage to the Union Pacific depot and three box cars. The town lacks fire protection, following earlier losses of 11000 on Main Street and 7500 for a hotel on January 28.

Steele City municipal election yields record turnout

The largest vote in Steele City history was cast last Tuesday. For the town ticket three seats go to the top names Chester Wilcox 92 M C Sampson 90 F W Lowe 44 and J C Wilson 34. several write ins received one to three votes. School board totals 118 with three year seats Ralph Arner 104 J E Hughes 83 Mra F V Lowe 47. two year seat W O Bundy 85 Mrs E B Shults 22.

Harmony Union Meets At Forsha Home With Sixteen Ladies

Harmony Union met at Mrs. Forsha's home on Thursday afternoon March 29 with sixteen ladies present. A family of four generations spoke on environmental influence. The Frances and Willard program featured topics by members and was noted as interesting and helpful. Next meeting to be at Endicott.

Easter Season Brings Worship and Renewal at Local Church

The church urges time for God and worship as Easter nears. A sacred Easter concert by a 30-voice chorus at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury is planned for next Sunday afternoon at four. Bible reading totals 2509 chapters in March, with the Women’s Bible Class leading at 1348. The Presbytery of Nebraska City meets Monday and Tuesday in Seward. Women’s Presbyterial Missionary Society meets Thursday and Friday in Lincoln. Christian Endeavor discusses progress from last week. The next service switches to eight o'clock with no evening preaching.
