Local notes report Willey selling and hanging over 1500 rolls in 1911 and offering clean wallpapering services. Easter Sunday brings garden plans and Easter egg hiding. Several residents, including H D Schlarb, F Crinklaw, and J D Minkler neighbors, visited Fairbury and Robison Kansas markets this week.
Mrs L E Christey and daughter of Manhattan Kansas attended the funeral of her brother Bentley Hoffert last Sunday. Rupert Andrews elected captain of Fairbury high school track and field. Easter sermon and music at M E church at 11 AM with evening preaching. American National hog fence advertised at Hicks hardware store. Mrs Wm Pearson left for St Joe after word her son-in-law Harvey Andrews was ill. A E Parke moving to Clapp's building near depot to open a restaurant. Wheat winter-killed. some plan to plant corn. Town busier last Saturday. hitch racks in demand. W E Willey sells wallpaper. Pure Barred Rock eggs for hatching available. W C Davis family to move to Seattle after visiting Wymore. Automobiles usable but country travel limited. M E church youth ice cream social April 12 to fund songbooks. S H Hoffert of Bradford Ohio arrived with Bentley Hoffert’s body. expects to stay about a week. Kansas paper notes band dress and expense for uniforms. suggestion to add pants or raise funds.
In Fairbury the socialists won three of five council seats and the town went wet by a 104 majority. Robt Hebel moved onto the John Townsend farm southeast of town. George Hughes hoped to return from Omaha hospital but washouts delayed his travel. A government inspector checked Willard and Guy Stewart’s horses as they plan Canada travel. The K P lodge may be entertained in Wright's hall with a secret program. The village board discussed a road grader for about 100 dollars and fence repairs along Mr. R. L. Babcock's property. Updates on telephone staff changes, with Maude Wiley becoming chief operator and Leah Stewart assisting. The election drew 56 votes with two new candidates Geo Crane and I C Wilson entering, vote totals Edtermeier 48 Crane 33 Wilson 30 Broadston 28 Now 22. A caution to boys about shooting at birds citing town ordinances, state law, and neighbor concerns, plus parental accountability for arson and fire safety.
