Zoonomia project maps mammal evolution and Balto genome
An international team sequenced 240 mammal genomes including humans to identify conserved DNA regions linked to health and traits. They compare hibernators olfaction and Balto the sled dog, finding Balto healthier genetically than modern dogs. The work clarifies mammal diversification timelines and aids conservation triage using genome data.
