Former Stamford Resident Burned in Rising Star Blast
E. 8. (Zeke) Waldrip of De Leon, fireman on the MK&T Railroad and former Stamford resident, was badly burned in an explosion that killed F. P. joint, Katy division superintendent, near Rising Star last Friday at 4:30 pm as a gasoline car was being lifted. Waldrip died Saturday morning. He was treated in Rising Star, then moved to Baylor hospital in Dallas where his condition remained serious. Mrs Waldrip was in Dallas with him, and a group from Stamford accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ivy and their children attended.

Pigeon Corrigan Lands in Stamford Not Fort Worth
Dr. J. H. Rutherford found a homing pigeon at his home in Stamford. The bird bore Fort Worth banded ownership and had raced Cisco to Fort Worth on September 11. It flew the wrong direction yet completed a rapid flight, and the owner requests its return with the name Corrigan officially adopted.

A. R. Clary aged 82 was struck while crossing North Swenson avenue near the Nazarene church. Driver Joe Norwood said Clary hesitated then started across and could not be stopped before impact. He was taken by Kinney ambulance to the hospital in grave condition.

David Mercer Run Over by Train Near Stamford
David Mercer aged 38 was killed when struck by a motor train as he lay on the Wichita Valley track near Stamford. The engineer could not stop in time. Funeral held Sunday at 5 with Rev. H B Hinson. burial at Highland Cemetery. Survived by wife Mamie Tysinger, daughter Penny, son J W Mercer, and several siblings.

Fair Boosters of West Texas Visit Stamford
Two booster groups from Abilene and Throckmorton County Fair territories visited Stamford last week. The Abilene party arrived Thursday afternoon and was welcomed by Mayor R. C. Thomas, Mrs. Steve Bennett, Stamford Chamber of Commerce secretary, and Cleburne Huston. Throckmorton visitors arrived Saturday, joined by local leaders for a noon reception, then hosted a square dance and musical program at about 1:80.

The Stamford Bulldogs defeated the Seymour Panthers 7 to 0 in a non conference opener at Bulldog Field. Hilly Bryant plated the decisive score in the third quarter after a steady Bulldog march from their own 40 yard line. The Panthers mounted a late air attack but could not complete enough passes to close the gap.

Cotton Ginning Totals Rise in Stamford Area
Slightly over 2,000 bales of cotton had been ginned in Stamford this season by Thursday noon with prices around 4.40 cents. Census data from special agent B Pope show 1816 bales ginned in Jones county from the 1935 crop before Sept. 16, compared with 7,370 bales in 1937.
