Famed bootmaker M. McLaughlin dies in Amarillo at 82
M. McLaughlin, renowned bootmaker and uncle of Stamford resident Mrs. Carl Day, died in Amarillo last week at age 82. Born in Ireland, he learned the trade in Dayton and worked in Texas from 1892, making boots for Will Rogers, Tex Rickard, Belle Montana, and especially Tom Mix, for whom he crafted the first boots and later a dozen pairs for a European tour.
