Rotary Inter-City Meet and Chicken Barbecue at Lueders
The Stamford and Hamlin Rotary Clubs hosted Rotarians and families from seven clubs for the largest West Texas inter-city gathering at the West Texas Baptist encampment near Lueders. About 250 attendees enjoyed a chicken barbecue, singing, and speeches by district leaders and Dr. Horn of Texas Tech on Rotary’s global role and international friendship. Attendees hailed from Abilene, Sweetwater, Spur, Breckenridge, Ranger, Hamlin, Stamford, and others, with a long list of participating Rotarians and clubs.

Cream Routes Boost Farmer Income In Stamford Area
County Agent C C Jobson notes two cream routes into Stamford remain in operation. Lueders delivered 738 pounds of cream last week earning 19 producers 124.27 dollars. Hamlin delivered 1163 pounds netting 30 producers 154.72 dollars after a nickel per pound haul deduction. Most producers report a one third gain in cream price over recent months, and plans aim to make routes permanent with farmer participation. The peach tree borer is blamed for many tree losses. paradichlorobenzene applied at bases can yield up to 90 percent kill, best Oct 10–20. Also urged is planting winter grazing crops, as green pasture can cut feed costs, with millet ready in 50–60 days before frost.

Fire of undetermined origin completely destroyed the residence of J. A. Bozeman at 1021 Symonds Place early Tuesday. The couple escaped with only the clothes on their backs as flames consumed furniture and effects. insurance partially covered the loss.

Jim Jack Fields Dies Former Stamford Cisco Player
Jim Jack Fields, a former Stamford High School football player and later a Cisco star, died in Cisco last Friday at 7 p m. The funeral was held there Saturday at 4 30 p m. He was the son of Mr and Mrs J T Fields formerly of this jetty with Mr and Mrs R O Gafford of Stamford attending.
