Pioneer rancher Charles Bordner dies at 74 in Texas
Charles Bordner a prominent Old Glory ranchman and early Stonewall County sheriff died at the local Sanitarium on Sunday at age 74. A bachelor with a wide circle of friends, his funeral plans included shipping his remains to Illinois for burial after viewing at Barrow Furniture Company. He helped organize Stonewall County and served as an early sheriff, leaving a notable legacy in the community.

Notable Spring Creek Citizen Dies at 67
Thos C Ferguson of Spring Creek community died Saturday at 67, never married. He left many friends and a brother J B Ferguson plus other relatives in Spring Creek and Swans Chapel. Funeral was Sunday at 10 with Rev J J Grimes of Avoca Baptist Church officiating, Penick Hughes handled arrangements. Interment followed at Spring Creek cemetery.

Mrs Virginia Hebra Buie Rites Held in Stamford
Mrs Virginia Hebra Buie aged 78 died in Stamford on September 8. She was wife of an invalid veteran and mother of seven sons and one daughter. Funeral services were at the home of son R B Buie, 403 FE Campbell, with burial at Highland Cemetery. Pastor Rev W C Moffett officiated.

Stamford Barbecue and Communities Fair Draws Wide Crowd
A large Stamford crowd gathered for a Wednesday Big Barbecue and Communities Fair with county participants from Ex and Haskell. The event featured farm exhibits, music by the Firemen's Band, speeches, a Texas National Guard duties presence, and a 1200 loaf bread, 100 gallons of coffee, and 1000 pounds of beef barbecue. Stamford’s baseball team lost to Avoca, and an evening dance closed the program.
