Rescue of Penick party from Lake Penick floods on Clear Fork
Col R L Penick, his daughter Miss Lilias Penick, and Charley O'Brien were rescued at 3 10 p m after more than 24 hours marooned on the Clear Fork flood. They rode a rope to safety from the W W Keith lodge roof as swift currents delayed early attempts. The trio, later found on the Keith house roof, faced no serious injuries and remained in good spirits.

Jack Cook recounts a perilous three and a half mile trip down the flooded Clear Fork and Lake Penick to reach the R. L. Penick home. The outboard boat struck a tree, lost its motor, and overturned. Cook and Gordon Haynes, aided by Hamby Short, finally reached land after ropes and a horse pull. The water surged near the Penick house and even seeped through windows.
