The Slogan Committee selected "In the Best of the West" as Stamford’s top slogan for the $25 prize, submitted by Mrs. J. A. Broadwell. The Chamber of Commerce will feature the phrase on stationery and literature, and other towns are warned not to copy.

Rain Sunday benefited crops in Jones County. The storm, starting at noon and lasting two to three hours, boosted cotton growth and reduced leaf shedding. Farmers estimate the recent two weeks of rain could double the county’s cotton yield, while West Texas traders anticipate heavy fall business.

The Hawey and McGee claim fame as cider makers. J J Kerts celebrated at McGee's on Sunday with Stamford band and West Texas neighbors attending. A long table with cakes and ice cream followed a lighted band reception. County Agent Men acted as toastmaster.
On Tuesday at five at First Christian Church in Denton a wedding united Allen Loftin of Stamford and Charlotte Owsley of Denton. Dr Waits of Texas Christian University read the ceremony as Charlie Inglish served best man and Ellen Pool maid of honor. The groom is secretary of the local Chamber of Commerce and the bride taught domestic science in city schools. They will reside in Stamford in Heath duplex apartments on East Hamilton Street.
Mr L W Evans and Mrs Alice Richardson were married Sunday afternoon by Rev J D Crockett. Evans works with the alley and they reside in a new 11 room home on East Reynolds built for railroad men to board in. The couple plans reflect an early business approach of marrying after securing a home.
Mr Frank Jurecka of Stamford and Miss Mae Burge of McConnell were married Sunday at 3 PM at Rev J D Crockett residence on East Campbell street. Bride is daughter of Sam and Mrs Burge of McConnell. Groom formerly with Overland Automobile Co now plans to join bride at her home community. The American extends best wishes.
A Parent Teachers Association meeting will be held at the intermediate school on East Moran Street next Wednesday afternoon. The program includes prayer, the song America, and a business session with plans for the year. Speakers include Mrs. A. L. Moore ident, Mrs. T. A. Upshaw, Mrs. R. McDonald, Mrs. Ramie, with bulletin items by Mrs. McDonald and a piano solo by Miss Clarice Hood.
H H Pennington’s storage garage on East Hamilton nears completion with windows and doors remaining. Cement contractor J J Pollard and crew have laid a week’s cement floor, a job noted as substantial and well done. Pennington also has a brick caneer home on McHarg, keeping him busy during the hot season.

The West Texas Utilities Co. office on north Swenson is being redecorated this week and shined up like a ladies parlor. The workers are never satisfied and stay late thinking up new stunts to improve service and boost the office’s appeal.
Mrs. W. D. Hastings has been quite sick but is improving, according to latest health update from her family.
P. P. Snowden district traffic chief for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. was in Abilene Friday on business. He promoted Drink Hunter's Famous Root Beer at five cents during his visit.

The Abilene District Christian Endeavor Convention gathers at St Johns M E Church with delegates from Presbyterian and Christian churches. Central churches host events including a Saturday picnic at Lueder Park and a sunrise service Sunday, with sessions daily through Sunday night and an expected large turnout.
