United Fund Budget Set for the New Year
The United Fund set its new year budget at a City Hall meeting with a total of 12 500 dollars matching last year. Two new agencies Celebralally and Camp Sweeney Diabetic Foundation receive 200 and 350 dollars respectively. Several allocations were adjusted with Boy Scout funds held at 2 000 dollars while Lee Walker gained approval for 2 150 dollars for Summer Youth Activities.

County Granted Emergency Farm Loans for Drought
Jones County farmers have been approved for emergency low interest loans from the Farmer Home Administration due to a prolonged drought. The action came via telegram from Congressman Omar Jameson on Tuesday after the county commissioners court requested relief as crops suffered. Funeral services for B. D. Miles aged 68 were held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Kinney Funeral Home Chapel with J B. Lamb of Orient Street Church of Christ officiating. Lynnora Ratliff of Stamford earned a fellowship from the U S Children’s Bureau to study speech pathology and audiology for a master’s degree at the University of Iowa Iowa City. A Baylor University graduate of 1963 she worked as a speech therapist for the Bix Spring school system. The program requires about 12 months of graduate study plus work in the department of speech pathology and audiology.
