Stenholm schedules busy campaign week before election

Democratic candidate Charles Stenholm of the 17th District outlines a packed slate for November 1 to 4. He visits Howard Junior College in Big Spring, campaigns in Abilene and Sweetwater, speaks at Snyder Rotary, attends the Stonewall County 4-H banquet in Aspermont, and continues fundraising and civic activities. Stenholm, 40, is a Stamford farmer-businessman who won a June 3 runoff two to one and seeks the seat vacated by retiring Congressman Omar Burleson.

End of Campaign Season For Texas General Election

Stamford area voters join Texans in a general election November 7 with polls from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jones County lists 14 voting places, two Stamford precincts voting at the Youth Center. Election judges include Richard Lane and others as announced by County Clerk Hazel Dudley. Main race centers on U S congressman between Charles Stenholm and Bill Fisher, with key statewide contests for governor and U S senator. Election Watch Party for Stenholm Tuesday

Charles Stenholm's election campaign team will host an Election Watch Party Tuesday at St. Ann's Parish Hall on South Swenson. Stamford leaders, including Mayor Gary Mathews as MC and Roy Craig coordinating the vote tally, will attend. Volunteers will present a slide show and provide refreshments and decorations as the public is invited.

Native Stamford artist Sojourner named November Artist of the Month

Mrs. Jim Sojourner, born Janet Sorrell and Stamford native, was chosen by the Stamford Chamber of Commerce as November Artist of the Month. A Stamford High graduate, she trained at Famous Artist School and studied under Nell Bennett, Robert Garden, and Harold Scott. She works in pen and ink, watercolor, oil, and acrylic, favors oil, and has earned awards with her students in local fairs. She and husband Jim reside in Stamford with their son Sean and daughter Shanna.

Harvest Luncheon by Stamford Garden Club Sets Today
