Memorial Day Program Set For Monday On Post Office Lawn
A Memorial Day service commemorating war dead of all wars will be held Monday May 31 at 3 p.m. on the post office lawn. Warren Alberts chairs the sponsoring Sta Aford Chamber of Commerce committee. Rev. Jerry Boles will speak and Rev. J C Bloebaum will offer the invocation. Company M, 42nd Infantry, National Guard, provides color guard and guards the honor salute. American Legion and VFW auxiliaries place wreaths, followed by silver taps. Stamford High School band performs a 15 minute concert before the service, led by William F Mayes, closing with The Star Spangled Banner.

Strauss Store Sold to Dallas Man in Major Stamford Deal
Strauss Dry Goods, one of Stamford's oldest firms, was sold last Saturday by Charles Strauss to Sidney Einheber of Dallas. Einheber plans to run the store as Strauss Dry Goods Company while Mrs. Einheber and their son remain in Dallas until school ends. The Strausses, who came to Stamford in 1928, will keep Stamford as home.

The week added 1.59 inches, bringing year to date to 10.95 inches while May’s normal is 9.45. Farmers may re plant cotton due to cool wet weather. 140 000 acres of Jones county cotton are expected to be planted. Wheat and oats harvest is expected mid June. Lake Stamford gains 18 feet this week and covers 3 356 acres. Two railroad bridges on the Wichita Valley between Stamford and Spur were washed out requiring quick repairs.

Six County Singers Gather for Sunday Convention in Roundup
A six county singing convention will be held Sunday May 30 at Roundup Hall Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds from 10 am to 4 pm.
