First Inspection of Yards by Judges This Friday

Right of way for widening State Highway No. 83 is being secured by the Jones county road committee. Landowners are urged to sign agreements for ten feet of additional right of way at $35 per mile pro rata, with $35,232.04 of state funds promised for the project.

Winners in Bryant-Link quilt show to be announced

Quilts entries total 167 for the Bryant Link Company show with entries accepted through Friday night. Prizes of 15 dollars will be distributed among eight winners when judging concludes Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock.

Baptists Celebrate Large Stamford Church Day

Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Stamford saw 110 in the Business Men's Bible Class and 597 in Sunday School, with 149 in the young people's services and ten baptisms at the evening service. Offering reached 116 dollars, and a May Catch-Up Month was urged to fund a new building. Mother's Day message will focus on Hagar. The lesson next Sunday covers John 2 and Jesus turning water into wine at Cana. Rev. Sam Morris plans a Southern Baptists trip to St. Petersburg Florida for the May 12 convention.

Mrs. O. B. McCann Dies After Illness at 27

Mrs. O B McCann aged 27 died at the family home on Campbell Street after eleven weeks of lung illness. Funeral from Church of Christ conducted by Rev Fred Ross and Rev M B Harris, burial in Fairview Cemetery near Tuxedo. Pallbearers listed. Barrow Undertaking Co directed the services. Born Chatfield Navarro County September 16, 1904. Men’s Bible Class Sets Attendance Record in May Contest

The Men’s Bible class at the First Baptist Sunday school drew 110 men, up from 97 the prior Sunday, as a church rivalry begins with St. John’s Methodist Brotherhood Class. The Methodists counted 99 attendees. the contest runs through May.

Mother's Day will be observed at the Methodist church with music and a sermon by Rev. W. G. Fletcher. Transport aid available by calling Mr. Tobon 6801. Funeral for R. M. Owens in Oklahoma

R M Owens aged 80 dies at home near Walters Oklahoma on April 28. Burial follows at Rock Creek Cemetery near Duncan Oklahoma. Survived by two sons and six daughters including W A Owens of Anson and Minnie Watts of Stamford. Funeral attended by Mrs Watts and W A Owens.

Mrs. Guy L. Mills of Mayville New York discovered a live bird in the fire box of her kitchen stove. The incident was reported as a curious household occurrence with no injuries.

Pioneer Resident W F Bullington Buried in Stamford

Funeral services for W F Bullington age 75 who died in Houston on April 27 were held in Stamford. He was a pioneer Stamford resident who later moved away. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery beside his wife. Survived by four daughters and their husbands, with pallbearers named from Abilene, Stamford, and Lometa.

Abilene K of P members were special guests at Stamford lodge Tuesday night. Esquire rank was conferred on one Abilene member and three Stamford members. A special meeting is set for Friday at Castle hall to confer Knight rank on three members. Fifty members and guests attended the social hour after the business session.

Revival Meeting Under Way at Nazarene Church

Rev Walter Patterson, Wellington evangelist, is leading a revival at the Church of the Nazarene on North Swenson. Pastor Rev O Parr says Patterson preaches with love and divine inspiration and that interest is growing. Services are 10 a m and 8 p m daily and Miss Cassie King from Hamlin joins as Hawaiian guitarist and pianist.

Latch opens New Bottling Works on Highway 18

R. E. Latch opens the New-Icy Bottling Works beside the Gulf service station on Highway 18 east of Orient street. He distributes New-Icy beverages in Jones and Haskell counties and says the small plant produces as good a product as larger outfits. Production shifts to Stemford where he previously handled out of town brands.

Stamford Girl Wins Clothing Contest At Mineral Wells

Miss Grace Moudy a Stamford High School senior won first place in class B at the State Home Making Educational Rally in Mineral Wells. She entered a dress made in her Home Economics class. Other Stamford entrants included Miss Margaret Frizell Miss Jessie Lee Compton and Doroth May Pratty.
