Jaycees Name Western Week Co Chairs for Stamford
Jack Watson and Joe Lambert were named co chairmen of the Stamford Junior Chamber of Commerce committee to stage a Western Week before the Texas Cowboy Reunion. Vice-President Harry Lee Haynes announced the appointment in the president’s absence. The Jaycees will sponsor the Western project and run the go Western week the week before the four day rodeo event begins June 30.

New Squad Car Ordered for Stamford Police Department
Stamford\'s lone squad car will be replaced by a new 1951 Plymouth fully equipped. City Manager Grady Bowdry announced after a City Council meeting that Bandeen Motor Company offered the best bid. The current 1950 Plymouth will be traded in for 957.16 dollars after excise tax refunds, with delivery promised soon.

National Music Week Observance Starts in Stamford
National Music Week is underway in Stamford with church music on Sunday April 29. The theme Maytime is led by Mrs Norris Russell Stamford Music Club president and local clubs and schools are asked to feature music all week. Art displays from Stamford school children 800 drawings in local stores highlight the week with the May Fete by Reynolds Street school Tuesday and the May breakfast at St Johns Methodist Church Saturday May 5.

St Johns class to sponsor benefit variety show May 10
The St John s Intermediate Department plans a May 10 benefit variety show in the church basement. Proceeds fund a summer recreation program including a south side jet converted into a playground with tennis volleyball and croquet. Tickets are priced 25 cents for students and 50 cents for adults.

Stamford business leaders were invited to a breakfast sponsored by the Stamford Board of City Development to be held Thursday at 8 a.m. in Nat's Cafe banquet room. Borger Couple’s Vacation Intervened by Heart Attack
A 30 day vacation was interrupted in Stamford when Mrs. A. Z. Sharp of Borger suffered a heart attack at Yates Drug Store about 11:15 a.m. Kinney Funeral Home ambulance took her to Stamford Sanitarium for oxygen and treatment. Her husband remained with her as they continued toward Ranger, their former home.

Rev Sam Young Named New Justice of Peace
The Rev. Sam H. Young, a retired Methodist preacher, was appointed by the County Commissioners Court to fill the unexpired term of the late Jack Bates as Justice of the Peace, Precinct No. 2. Young arrived in Stamford in 1935 and has lived there nine years. Bates died of a heart attack after the election.

Food Poisoning Outbreak Affects 20 At Bricksdahl Church
One food poisoning victim remained hospitalized as twenty were struck at the Bricksdahl Ericksdahl community event. The illness began during the 29th annual Texas Conference Evangelical Lutheran Augustana Church gathering at Bethel Lutheran and affected attendees from several cities.

Orville Eugene Lindley aged 1& months died after rat poison ingestion. He and his family recently moved to Stamford from Hamlin. He was rushed by ambulance to Hendrick Memorial Hospital Abilene, treated in transit and in hospital, then died in an iron lung. Funeral set for Thursday at Breckenridge. Survived by two older brothers Charles Lee and William James. The poison was found in the apartment left by a previous tenant.

Zoning enforcement tightened by city officials
The city council and the board of adjustment pledge stricter application of the zoning ordinance for building permits and construction. Ignorance of the rules will no longer excuse noncompliance, and both contractors and owners are held to the same standards. Texas Cowboy Reunion Adds Colt Gelding Divisions
The American Quarter Horse show at the Texas Cowboy Reunion will add colt and gelding divisions and a cutting horse contest replacing the former reining event. Naval Reservist Visits Parents in Local Home
Charles Henry Sorrell H M 2 percent with the Medical Corps of the Navy at San Diego visited his parents Mr and Mrs Ed Sorrell from Saturday until Wednesday morning. Sorrell was in the Naval Reserve and was called back into service from Colorado City on January 9 after serving in the Navy 44 months in World War II. His wife is staying in Baltimore Md with her relatives.
