Stamford High School clinched the University Interscholastic League County Meet with 170 points to Anson 140 and Hamlin 1½. McElreath led the team with 16 points, while Anson's Key added 14. The athletics section crowned Stamford in sprints and distance events as the girls swept the 50-yard dash and Stamford captains dominated the field events.

Tom Vickers died after three days of pneumonia at 58. He lived near Lueders for about 30 years after moving from Tennessee. He is survived by his mother and brothers and sisters, with many attending his funeral at Lueders Clearfork Cemetery. Golf Tournament at Country Club a Big Success
Buford Wheeler won first prize in the season opening golf tournament at the Country Club on Sunday. Jennings Fairless tied for second and third. Bowdry and Southard tied for fourth and fifth. Jennings had the low gross score of 67 for 18 holes among about 70 club members with 90 entries overall. Upcoming events will lead to the club championship in August, with plans for a ladies’ tournament and more events on the calendar.

Death of Philip Schepp in Wichita Faille at 54
Philip Schepp of the city died March 21 in a Wichita hospital after a six month illness. He was 54. Funeral services were held here Friday from the family home on North Webb Street with Pastor Leroy Elkins of Lamesa officiating. He is survived by his wife, two brothers, and two sisters in New Orleans.

Obituary: Tom Jared Dies at 61 in Millersview
Tom Jared 61 died at his home in Millersview Monday. An ambulance from Barrow Furniture Co. traveled 144 miles to Millersview and brought the body to Stamford. Funeral services were held at New Hope Church Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Survived by brothers J. W. Jared and I. A. D. Jared, both of Stamford.
