Class Finishes Primary Flying Work This Week
Upperclassmen at Stamford Arledgefield complete primary training this week and depart Sunday. The class includes aviation students and cadets. Students move to Sherman Air Corps Basic Training School while cadets report to Randolph Field. A dinner dance hosted by underclassmen honors the graduates Saturday night.

Stamford schools will start at 9 a.m. instead of 10 a.m. and will close at 4 p.m. with the noon hour observed from 12 to 1 p.m. The change resumes wartime hours after the war.

Officials from the Civil Aeronautics Authority are due Friday or Saturday to inspect the Municipal airport for designation under new regulations. A telephone line was installed this week as the final known requirement, and city manager Grady Bowdry will serve as airport manager. If designated, the hangar will be enlarged or a new one built.

Peggy Ashburn Severely Burned in Bathroom Fire
Peggy Ashburn fourteen year old daughter of Mr and Mrs B F Ashburn of Tuxedo was severely burned Sunday when her coat caught fire in the bathroom. Her hands and hips were badly burned before the flames were extinguished by her mother and father. She is in Stamford Sanitarium where she is doing fine but will be under treatment for some time.

James C. Vaden Dies in Rotan
James C. Vaden 65 a Stamford area resident for about 30 years died Tuesday at Rotan hospital after a fall at his sister Mrs. J. M. Carters near Anson causing hip and back injuries. Funeral was held Wednesday at Kinney Funeral Chapel with burial in Highland cemetery. He was born August 6 1876 in Tennessee and lived in Stamford since 1912. Survived by two brothers and two sisters. Pallbearers named Flournoy Leavitt Sonam Williams Young and Wylie.

Stamford reports over 4 million pounds of scrap iron shipped to war industries since June, with 28 of 54 carloads moved since Pearl Harbor. Junk collection accelerated by local defense clubs and the county war board, as old auto bodies tires and paper join shipments. Residents urged to place scrap in designated containers for charity proceeds and to continue paper salvage which nearly doubles prior totals.

Ted Miles has an approved aviation cadet application and expects training within weeks. First Aid Classes Grow Across Jones County
Over 150 Jones Countians enroll in first aid courses conducted in Ancon and Stamford by three Red Cross certified instructors. Ancon and Stamford men and women complete tests and hours, with 16 highway department employees finishing advanced first aid under W A Haynes. Stamford participants include Joe Dick Gid Lens and others who completed fourteen hours instruction.
