Stamford students earned multiple top finishes at the county Interscholastic League meet in Anson. Stamford placed fourth in Class A literary events with 20 points while Janson led with 67. Betty Jane Blackwell won senior girls declamation, and the junior boys and girls declamation placings followed. Stamford teams in debate typing shorthand and music events earned several firsts and seconds, with notable results from Hamlin Anson and Elwyn Gregory. The junior track team took first, senior track totaled 55 points with six firsts, and Mary Sue Culwell and Roy Reid added wins at the Intermediate School.

Dr and Mrs E P Bunkley traveled to Honey Grove last Saturday due to Porter Allen's critical illness. He died before their arrival. Funeral services were held Sunday after Mrs Bunkley had visited her father earlier in the week while Dr Bunkley attended a Fort Worth medical meeting.
County Singing Convention Set for April 1 2 in Stamford
The Jones County Singing Convention will meet in Stamford on Saturday night and Sunday. Events are at First Baptist Church Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, with Sunday morning service at 10 o’clock in the city auditorium. Henry Shipp of Hamlin is president, Fred Bennett of Corinth is vice president, and Lester Baize of Tuxedo is secretary treasurer.

Easter Seals Sale Opens Early With Local Benefit
Miss Olive McDougle leads Jones County Easter Seals sale sponsored by the Business and Professional Women's Club. Sixty five percent stays local for crippled children, thirty percent goes to the Texas Society for Crippled Children, and five percent to the national organization. Stamford club funded hospital transportation for several children last year, including trips for a bone tuberculosis case and an eight year old, with totals of thirty and thirty one dollars respectively.

Evans 88 longtime New Hope resident buried
Funeral rites for Mrs. Roxie Ann Evans 88 an early settler of the New Hope area were held Tuesday at the church. She died Sunday night in Wichita Falls at the home of her son R A Evans with whom she had lived about 10 years. Burial was in New Hope cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include three daughters two sons 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Flower bearers were Mrs H E Moore Mrs John McCarley Mrs John McCown Mrs A L Hughes Mrs Henry Rogers and Miss Opal Hughes. Sagerton Woman Dies After Highway Crash Near Stamford
Mrs. Leslie Cobb twenty of Sagerton died of a fractured skull and other injuries at Stamford Sanitarium shortly after a highway wreck ten miles north of Stamford on a gravel road. Three other young women were injured, including driver Mrs. J C Capps. Frances Blackwell Della Pearl Blackwell and Prances Hinckwell sustained various injuries. Funeral arrangements set for Truscott Knox County.

Two Stamford Men Injured In Highway Crash
George Kinney and B W Phelps of Stamford were injured when their car overturned east of Stamford after brushing soft dirt on the highway shoulder during a passing maneuver. Kinney suffered a fractured vertebra of the neck and a back injury. Phelps had a broken shoulder. Both received treatment. The car had just been purchased and was on a test drive by Phelps when the accident happened.
