A revival meeting begins Friday night at the Lueders Baptist Church and runs through Sunday March 30. Pastor Rev. Melvin Byrd announces Rev. N. E. McGuire of Knox City will preach and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Riddle of Dallas will lead the music. Everyone is welcome.
Dorothy Foster was elected to attend the District Home Demonstration meeting at Anson on April 23. Avoca 4-H girls met March 12 with salad recipes for the demonstration guidebook and prepared French dressing for wilted lettuce. The next meeting is set for the second week in April.
A training session for the Huston Hardware sales team was conducted Thursday night last week in Sherwin-Williams products including paints Lin-X and Pestroy.
A Black gravedigger who helped move 12 former Hitler era prisoners of war from Camp Swift to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, recalls the men as good-natured, capable cooks who learned pie dough from ice water, while noting their attempts to speak English.
The local American Legion post and Auxiliary celebrated the 28th birthday with a covered dish supper and an entertainment program. Day ton Masters, a Pearl Harbor casualty brother, had his name added to the post and Dayton’s picture joined veterans including Vernon I. Hart in the Legion hall. Speakers included Ryland Gleaton and past commander Bill Buie. music was provided by the Brown Derby orchestra and the Spiritualist Five.
Mrs. Fannie Bremer, 67, longtime Stamford resident living with her son Harry Bremer, died early Sunday after a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were held in Shreveport, Louisiana, with burial at Rodessa Cemetery. Survivors include three sons J B and Tommy of Shreveport and Harry A of Stamford, two daughters, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Mark Wayne Hinson son of Rev and Mrs H S Hinson underwent an appendectomy at Stamford Sanitarium on March 11. His fifth birthday on March 13 was spent in the hospital while he recovered. He is now getting along fine.
Pvt. James C. Wiley, son of Mr and Mrs Tom Wiley, has been in Japan ten months and arrived in Seattle. He was sent to Camp Beall for discharge and expected home later this week after 13 months in service. Ida Marr Baldwin, daughter of Mr and Mrs Marshall Baldwin of Aspermont, entered Stamford Unitarium for flu treatment and is improving.
Jim McCulloch, chairman of the California Creek Soil Conservation District, promotes conservation farming with a 360 acre Sunnyside farm. He reports 15 to 30 percent yield gains from terracing contouring crop rotation and residue management while steering a three year crop rotation and limited cotton cycles. He has chaired since 1941 with non paid service. Earl Osment is reported ill in Stamford sanitarium.
