All Sports Banquet Date Set for April 15

Don Maynard of Colorado City, star flanker for the New York Jets, will be speaker at Stamford High School All-Sports Banquet. Event at National Guard Armory starts 7 30 p m Tuesday April 15, with tickets $2 50. Chamber of Commerce Quarterback Club and service clubs sponsor. Maynard was All-Pro last year and played for Colorado City Wolves in 1952 1953.

Western Musical Friday Night In Auditorium

The Stam ford Young Home makers Chapter sponsors a western musical in Stam ford High School auditorium Friday March 21 at 7 30 pm. Admission 1.00 for adults 50 cents for children under 12 with all proceeds to the Red Cross Chapter. Glen Mac of KDWT will emcee. Local talent groups perform and gifts donated by merchants will be drawn for.

English Preacher To Speak for St. John's Meeting

Rev. G. W. S. Knowles from Blackpool, England, will be the speaker at St. John's United Methodist Church in Stamford during a week of spiritual enrichment and renewal in April 2025. The event is in cooperation with the church's Board of Evangelism.

Contracts Renewed For Local Teachers

Stamford public schools extended contracts for many teachers as the school board renewed one year and two year agreements. Principal and coach contracts were extended a year, with several counselors and teachers receiving two year deals and others one year contracts.

Stamford experienced a mix of drizzle snow and rain last week as a cold front approached. Moisture measurements totaled 2.35 inches for March, 1.19 inches is normal, with year to date 1.36 inches above normal.

Teachers Meet March 17 in Stamford School Library

Mrs Luzelle Beene presided over a Stamford Classroom Teachers Association meeting with 22 members present in Reynolds School Library. Officers named were Ann Carothers secretary and Bill Decker treasurer. They voted to send the president and vice president to the Texas Classroom Teachers Association meeting in El Paso April 11 and 12 and formed a nomination committee for next year’s officers. Beene may be submitted for a seat on the state association board. Ratliff noted TSTA supported bills.

Youth Baseball Program To Be Discussed Friday

The Stamford youth baseball program will convene Friday at 7 30 p m in the city hall council room. City Manager Kerry Sweatt says the summer program will be run differently with Stamford High coaching staff guiding it and additional activities planned financed by the City and United Fund which has 2000 dollars. Last year featured Pee Wees and Pony League with larger boys teams in prior years.

Three Men Attend CofC Workshop in Mineral Wells

Three Stamford men attended a West Texas Chamber of Commerce workshop in Mineral Wells on Tuesday. John S. Martin and Lowell Longley joined Darryl Schoonmakers in meetings with WTCC and Chamber of Commerce leaders. Arnold Mathias delivered the keynote and discussed the program of work, finance and membership.

Jury Called for Trials in Anson District Court

A jury for the 104th District Court in Anson has been tentatively called for Monday. Two civil suits, both appeals from Industrial Accident Commission awards, are scheduled for trial.

Volleyball Tournament Planned at Stamford High

Stamford High School athletic department sponsors a volleyball tournament for men and women from March 31 to completion. Games on Monday and Friday nights. Entry is 1.00 with teams assigned by officials. Sponsor fees 10. Open to Stamford area players and sponsors. no current varsity players. Two-week practice window with trophies for the winner. Stamford Man's Brother Dies in Texas

Elbert Barron, 46, brother of Stamford resident Ross Barron, died Tuesday in Baird after an apparent heart attack. Funeral arrangements were set for Thursday.

Lueders Man Eric Crow Dies Near Austin at 60

Eric Crow, a 60 year old Lueders man employed by Lueders Cut Stone Co and Texs Quarry Co, died of a heart attack last Wednesday at the Texas Quarry plant north of Austin. Funeral was held Saturday at Lueders Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Byrd and Rev. Charles Whitlock officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, one daughter, four grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. Pallbearers listed.

Japanese Minister Speaks at Rotary on Church Building Fund

Paul Mawatari, a Church of Christ minister from Japan, spoke to the Rotary Club on Tuesday to raise funds for a church building program. He notes postwar changes in Japan including nylon stockings replacing cotton and a shift from obedience norms.

Roger Wilson Services Held Here Tuesday

Funeral for 77 year old Roger Wilson, retired stock farmer, was conducted at Central Presbyterian Church in Stamford. He died at Stamford Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness with WWI veteran status and survivors including a brother and sister. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home directing.

Camp Fire Camp Dates Set for June at Baptist Encampment

Dates for the annual Camp Fire camp at Leeders for Blue Birds Camp Fire Girls and Horizon Girls are June 2 to June 6. The outing called Camp O Da Ko will be at the Baptist Encampment Grounds with Mrs Taylor as director. Registration blanks go to the girls April 1 and registrations are due by April 15. Over 100 girls attend each year.
