Bloodmobile in Stamford Tuesday Aims to Meet Blood Quota

The Red Cross bloodmobile will visit Stamford on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church. John Martin of Stamford Memorial Hospital says the quota is 90 pints and the community has not met it for months. He urges residents to donate. The bloodmobile travels to Stamford from Wichita Falls.

Annual SEC meeting set Saturday night

The Stamford Electric Cooperative plans its annual meeting at the High School auditorium starting at 5 p.m. with a barbecue dinner and 5:30 entertainment. The 7 p.m. business session will include cooperative reports and director elections with nominees from Stamford, Anson, Old Glory, and Rule. The 1980 activity includes 370 new services and a 10 percent rate increase from West Texas Utilities.

Stamford Council approves HUD demolition bids and Lake Stamford actions

Stamford officials examined HUD renovation and demolition requests in a brief meeting. The council approved Leon Hargrove’s bid of 4740 to demolish 12 city lots and noted 59 lots cleared under HUD. Change orders added 732 for attic insulation, bringing total project cost to 5107. A paving letter to HUD Dallas sought 12000 for 350 feet of Hobart street amid resident opposition to shared costs. The panel also advanced lake lot transfers and leases, considered annexation, bike-a-thon plans, and youth center renovations. Mayor Blackburn cited a budget surplus over 240000 after two years of leadership.

Citywide March rebates total over seven thousand dollars citywide

Stamford received a March sales tax rebate of 728.14 with year to date $37,430.99 in 1961, a 10 percent gain over 1960. Abilene led with 365,221.41, Houston 5,025,897.80, Dallas over 4,000,000, and total state payments reached 37.9 million.
