Stamford County Line ISD board fills ballot order amid mass resignations

The Stamford County Line Independent School Board met Thursday night to accept resignations of four coaches Randy Burks Ken Fowler Eddie Richardson and Bobby White. Head coach Jerry Taylor left earlier, with Gary Wilhelm promoted. Band director Alvin Young along with two teachers also resigned. A ballot order draw for April 4 placed Place 3 candidates Bill Coe Mrs W C Thompson and Mark Merrill. Incumbents Jerry Manske Place 6 and J W Golden Jr Place 7 face no opposition. The board hired four new football coaches Nelson Coulter Ron Young Tommy Waters and Clark Boyd and approved various staffing and transportation items for 1981-82. Leaks at Reynolds Elementary and the Tri-County Tax Office were slated for repair. A tax authorization and use of credit cards for school vehicle use were approved.

Piggly Wiggly Manager Seeks Stamford City Council Seat

James Barnett, longtime Stamford supervisor at Piggly Wiggly, announces a bid for Place 4 on the Stamford City Council. He joins Jim Astin, Gene Shackelford, and Bob Martini in a competitive race for the seat Astin currently holds as he runs for mayor. Barnett, who moved to Stamford three years ago from Hamlin, urges increased business openings and more youth recreation, praising the town’s cleanup while calling for broader city-wide effort. He highlights family life with wife Margaret and two children, Becky and Matthew.

Lueders candidates file for Council and School Board

Six candidates seek three City Council seats in Lueders with an April 4 election at City Hall. Fred Sides is election judge. Nominees include Bobby Wingrove TA Higgins Russell Mullins Joe Kell Wilson Glass and J B Wilhite Jr. Three for two Avoca School Board seats include incumbents Charlie Ford Otis Seals Frances Spencer. Stenholm Faults Free Enterprise Redefinition for Agriculture

Congressman Charles W. Stenholm told the House Agriculture Committee in Washington that the Free Enterprise System has been redefined for agriculture, hindering both domestic and world markets. Stamford coeds earn trips to UIL state meet in Austin

Stamford High School students Marka Gray and Mandy McKeever earned division one ratings at the Feb 25 regional contest at Abilene Christian University, securing our UIL Band Solo and Ensemble state bids in piano solos. Pam Hanson and Tom Thompson also posted division one ratings. others achieved high and lower marks across piano, horn, trombone, clarinet and junior high events.
