Program to Develop Vietnamese Curriculum in Stamford Schools

Stamford schools are creating a Vietnamese language curriculum after a $2400 grant approval under the Indo-Chinese Refugee Assistance Act of 1975. J F Dozier notes plans for a teacher's aide, Mrs Wilbur Cox, a Viet Nam native resident, to support ten Vietnamese students from kindergarten to eleventh grade.

Stamford Baseball Program Registration Planned This Saturday

Youth in Stamford area may sign up for summer baseball and softball on Saturday March 20 from 10am to noon at the Youth Center. In Lueders the same day registration runs 9am to noon at Rockwell Brothers Lumber. Include Senior Pony Major Minor Little League softball and T ball leagues. Donations urged with tax deduction available and a work session at Stamford Little League Park March 18 at 6pm.

Blood on the Mountain Screened at Church of the Foursquare Gospel

The Church of the Foursquare Gospel at 110 E Campbell will show the color film Blood on the Mountain on Sunday March 21 at 6 pm. The plot follows Bob Jamison’s release from a Colorado state facility and an escapee named Hawk as he coerces Billy Hartman into a revenge driven kidnapping involving Jamison and his wife Karen.

First Baptist Church Plans Spirit of 76 Weekend

The First Baptist Church announces a weekend program centered on Spirit of 76 with a Saturday banquet at 7 30 featuring Shirley Cothran Miss America 1975. Tickets are 3 50 at the church office. Sunday she attends worship along with a resolution naming Public Protection Sunday and a noon luncheon for police fire and sheriff personnel. A Dyess AFB color guard will participate.

Fruit trees spared as brief frost threats pass Stamford

In Stamford area fruit trees have avoided major damage after several near freezes. Early readings at the local radio station showed 32 degrees on two mornings since Saturday and 33 on another, with no significant infant fruit loss yet. More cold weather was expected, rainfall last Thursday added .27 inch, advancing March and yearly totals toward the seasonal norm.

Revival at Orient Street Church Ends This Week

The six day revival at Orient Street Church of Christ runs through Friday with speaker Johnny Jackson of Irving. Services are at 10 a.m. and 7 30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday as the revival closes.

Stamford High Students Win Honors in Lubbock Meet

A group of Stamford High School students earned second and third place trophies at the Lubbock Coronado meet held March 6, with top finishers in slide rule and number sense. Participants included Russ Rosenquist and Tony Pierce among veterans, and Tim Gross and Dwain Connally as novices, with further results in junior high events and a science contest. Stamford will compete in Hamlin this Saturday.

Stamford Electric Cooperative Plans Annual Meeting

The 37th annual meeting of Stamford Electric Cooperative member-owners will be at Stamford High School Auditorium on Saturday March 20 starting 5 PM. Director elections, service awards, a barbeque dinner, and entertainment are planned with a complimentary movie ticket for children.

Bid set for baseball lights at Wendeborn Park

Stamford city council opened two bids for electrical work at Wendeborn Park. Goodrich Electric and Baldwin Electric submitted bids. both were rejected for technicalities. Baldwin Electric won later with a $16,760 bid to install lights and equipment.

Voter reminder drive planned by Stamford B and P W Club

The Legislative Committee of the Stamford Business and Professional Women's Club will remind area voters about the April elections for school board hospital district and city council. A telephone contact plan will reach voters on election day at the school auditorium and Youth Center. Chair is Mrs. Ettyl Allan.
