Mesquite district women to elect officers at 18th annual meeting

The Mesquite District of the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs will convene next week with meetings on March 21 and 22 at St. Ann's parish hall in Mesquite. Officers will be elected on opening day under the theme Our Dreams Become Realities with Dr. Robert Dulaney Moreton presenting a cancer program on Wednesday.

Local Youth Art Month showcased at Stamford CofC

The Stamford Chamber of Commerce hosts March Youth Art Month with works by local school students on display. March named Artists of the Month are art students of Roni Haxton. Since 1961 the Texas governor proclaims March for Youth Art Month to highlight art education and public support.

SEC Annual Meeting to Elect Directors at Stamford High

The 39th annual meeting of Stamford Electric Cooperative member owners will be held at Stamford High School Auditorium on Saturday March 18 at 5 p.m. Nominees for three three year director terms include Weldon Walker Louis Spitzer Lee R Van derworth and Joe Ford. First Federal plans major expansion and remodel project

First Federal Savings and Loan Association announces a large expansion to more than double the current facilities at 122 West McHarg. A new 5621 square foot building will rise east of the present structure, with remodeling of the existing building to expand office space. Construction aims for late April completion next year, final finish by February or March, and bids to be sought within 30 to 45 days.

Stenholm receives broad support at district banquet

A large crowd packed St Ann's parish hall to back Stamford farmer Charles Stenholm in the 17th Congressional District race. Speakers praised his integrity, articulation, and judgment as former football coach Gordon Wood and Dallas mayor pro tem Bill Blackburn emphasized his character and potential. Stenholm shared a campaign tale about an elderly Callahan County woman who would monitor his performance in Washington and hold him to account.
