Reynolds Street Elementary School hosts an open house from 7 to 9 PM as part of Texas Public School Week. P-TA members serve refreshments while teachers stay in rooms and pupils guide visitors. student work will be displayed.
Deliah Frances Green 79 of Lueders died Wednesday at Stamford Sanitarium from pneumonia. Born March 16, 1881 near Albany she moved to Lueders in 1915 and was a Bible Baptist Church member. Funeral Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Lueders with Rev. Oscar Fanning and others officiating. Burial in Lueders Cemetery Kinney Funeral Home Stamford in charge. She left five sons Curtis J D J C Lee and Robert, a daughter Mrs Howard Basinger, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, a brother Ben F. Lynch and sister Mrs G W Swartz.
Mrs. Hubert Watson will review Moss Hart's Autobiography for the Pierian Club meeting Thursday evening at 8 at the Home Economics Cottage. The club will honor the Stamford schoolwomen teachers and the local paper's woman editor.
Funeral for Mrs. Susie Stanley, mother of Mrs. Christine Hill of Stamford, was held Monday at 10 30 am at Garland Road Church of Christ in Dallas with graveside rites at 5 pm in Highland Cemetery, Stamford. Survivors include Mrs. Lucy Logue of Nashville, two daughters, two brothers, and grandchildren.
J. H. Humphreys, 77, father of Mrs. H. S. FitzGerald of Stamford, died Friday in Athens from a heart attack. Funeral Sunday at Tyler with graveside rites Monday at Weatherford, former family home. Survived by widow and four daughters. Mr. and Mrs. FitzGerald and son Jim of Stamford and Johanna of Texas Tech attend.
John Tower, Republican candidate for the U S Senate seat vacated by Lyndon Johnson, described himself as a consistent conservative at a Stamford Country Club gathering. He criticized opponents Blakley and Wright, accusing Wright of packing the Rules Committee and pledging to prioritize Texas and local spending over federal funds.
Cecil Faver of Eager Feed Mill in Stamford joins other feed dealers in opposing a government grain sale at less than the support price. They oppose CCC selling feed grains under the support price, even as they accept a higher support price in general. The provision is in a bill before Congress, with the Senate already striking it out and the grain men urging the House to do the same.
Stamford residents may vote April 4 in a referendum on funding street paving with bonds. The council debated city share of costs, suggesting one third of total plus full curb work by property owners, with engineering and water line costs previously included.
City council and school board, with Chamber of Commerce, explore a joint auditorium to serve high school needs and city programs. Superintendent FitzGerald cites space and acoustics limits, proposes a 800 seat facility with potential $350000 cost. bond election possible for remodels of city auditorium and other buildings.
The Stamford Music Club will present its annual church music program Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. John's Methodist Church. Highlights include Maurine Turner describing the Oberammergau Passion Play in Germany, with Mrs. N. M. Phy opening on the organ playing Bach's The Passion Chorale. The club chorus, directed by Mrs. Tony Selmon, will perform several numbers and Rev. Burgin Watkins will read scripture.
A new dry dock marina at Veda's Camp on Lake Stamford, built by Carl Grahear of Stamford, houses 16 boat stalls each 9 feet wide and 24 feet long. Boaters may lease stalls by the year.
The Stamford Business and Professional Women's Club will sponsor the annual Easter Seal drive with Mrs. H. H. Corley as general chairman. The sale starts March 21 and 77 percent of funds go to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Sbilene to treat patients from 29 counties without charge, requiring only a doctor's written statement of need.
Lloyd Connel, former minister of the Orient Street Church of Christ, will return to Stamford for gospel messages March 12 to 19. Services are daily at 10 30 a.m. and 7 p.m. with Sunday sessions at 10 a.m. and 7 30 p.m.
The Stamford Camp Fire Council annual Dad Daughter Banquet drew well over 300 attendees including Camp Fire Girls Blue Birds Horizon Club Girls and guests at Round Up Hall. Groups performed stunts bid candy prizes went on stage and the program closed with Let Me Call You Sweetheart as fathers joined their daughters.
