Cecil Gray Jr son of Mr and Mrs C B Gray earned his Navy pilot wings and commission as ensign at Corpus Christi Naval Air Base Lat urady Graduation exercises. His parents missed the ceremony due to Mr Gray undergoing emergency appendicitis surgery at Stamford Sanitarium. Ensign Gray will serve as instrument instructor then receive six weeks training in Atlanta before assignment to Norfolk. He is a Stamford High School graduate and attended Texas A M College prior to service.

Air Field Assists Reunion Room Arrangements

Lieut J T Hayes announced that cadet wives from the new class will stay in San Antonio until July 10 to free Stamford rooms for Reunion visitors. The Business and Professional Women's Club is surveying accommodations with Rev Otto Marshal, while the Chamber of Commerce collects listings for available rooms.

Mrs. C. R. Allen Dies In Sweetwater

Mrs. C. R. Allen who lived in Stamford for years died Tuesday at the Sweetwater home of her daughter Mrs. J. C. Pinson after a yearlong decline. Funeral held Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Sweetwater with Stamford attendees including pallbearer Dick Rowland and relatives Mrs. Rowland Mrs. Frank Lindsey and Mrs. Herbert Day.

Pfc. Sylvester McKay son of Mr and Mrs Arch McKay was wounded in action in Italy while serving with the tank destroyer service. His parents were notified Tuesday. He had earlier been in Africa and recently sent home souvenirs including native moccasins and handwork, after a furlough visit.

Llewellyn Bridges, 27, a rifleman with the Canadian army in England for over four years, is officially missing in action since June 11. He previously worked in California and sought transfer to the U S Army after America entered the war, marrying Rachel Lerons on June 6, 194? in England. Staff Sgt. Edgar S. Quade, a Purple Heart recipient wounded in Italy on December 6 1943, returns to Sagerton for a 21 day furlough with family. He landed at Salerno September 9 and was later treated in North Africa, citing service ribbons and prior training across multiple camps. He reports for duty July 5 at Fort Sam Houston.

Vacation Bible school at First Baptist Church ended with Friday night ceremonies and a Buie Park picnic. Rev. Miles B. Hays led as principal. over 30 workers aided. enrollment 107, peak 118. 33 students earned perfect attendance cards. Thursday service recorded 10 conversions and 17 re- commitments. Missionary offering for Mexico totaled $20.07 and general expenses $21.87.

Soderberg Receives Medal for Bombing Attacks on Germany

Harry A. Soderberg, 19, is promoted to Technical Sergeant with the Eighth Air Force. He serves as top turret gunner and engineer with the pioneer American Flying Fortress group in the European Theater and earns the Air Medal for meritorious combat over Germany.
