Grasshoppers have appeared in Jones and nearby counties prompting a grasshopper bait mixing station at the Farmers Coop Gin in Anson. Materials supplied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Jones County Commissioners Court via County Agricultural Agent H. Stanley’s office. Farmers with grasshopper trouble may obtain bait material on Monday Wednesday and Sunday from 9 to 4 with a small fee for mixing and handling.

John Oscar Barker aged 66 died of a heart attack at the A J Bell elevator while at work Wednesday about 7 am. Funeral Friday at 2 pm Kinney Funeral chapel with Rev H S Henson. Burial in Highland cemetery. Born Atlanta October 18 1880 he moved to Jones County in 1940 from Honey Grove. Survived by three sons a daughter seven grandchildren three brothers two sisters and other relatives.

Stamford golfers topped the first annual county tournament at Anson. W. C. Taylor defeated Russell Crownover in the championship flight as Ben Loop won the championship runners up, John Willoughby beat Roy Probst in the second flight, and Bill Morrow took the driving contest.
