Stamford residents will choose a new city councilman on Tuesday to fill the vacancy created by the resignation and transfer of Don Revell to Abilene. Three candidates, George Humphrey Grady Corby and Joe Frazier, are seeking Place 3 at City Hall with polls open 8 am to 7 pm.

Jones County commissioners weighed redistricting at their monthly meeting but left no definite plan. The U S Supreme Court has ruled one man one vote applies to counties, and a plan for at large countywide races with equal population is favored by a federal court. Jurisdiction varies by precinct, with Stam ford holding over a quarter of the county’s 19 303 residents. Precincts show 1983 voters in P1, 1984? in P2, 1454 in P3, and 92? in P4. The change date isn’t set. legislators may decide in session next year.

Former Resident Dies in Houston
J D Rambo a former Stamford American shop foreman died June 10 at Heights Hospital Houston. Funeral was held in Houston Tuesday morning and graveside rites were at Prairie Grove. He had one lung removed years ago and the other became involved. Rev P D O'Brien formerly of Stamford wrote of visiting him in hospital recalling days here.

Burkman Rites Held at Lueders Church of Christ
Funeral services for Carl A. Burkman 66 retired Lueders farmer and rancher were held Wednesday at the Lueders Church of Christ. The Rev Gary Taliaferro officiated. Burial followed at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Kinney Funeral Home care. He was born December 22 1901 in Bastrop and died Monday in Stamford Memorial Hospital after a 10 day illness. Survivors include his wife Clara of Lueders a daughter Gayle Finke of Sweetwater five grandchildren one great granddaughter five brothers and one sister.

Murder Trial Set for Segura in Anson Court
Philip Segura, 27, of Stamford faces a June 24 trial in 104th District Court at Anson for the Feb 17 shooting death of Felipe Cedillo Gomez, 23, in the 300 block of South Occident Street after a party dispute. Police say Segura retrieved a British field rifle and returned to shoot. He was indicted after initial charges in Justice court.

County approves traffic survey request in Stamford
Jones County Commissioners Court approved a resolution urging the Texas Highway Department to conduct a traffic survey in Stamford at the chamber of commerce request. City Manager Kerry Sweatt told the city council that bidding on paving Stamford streets and upgrading the municipal airport will be postponed a week. Original opening date was Friday June 21, but the Federal Aviation Agency indicated errors in bid forms and specifications requiring corrections and a new opening date of June 28.

Fuqua Services Held Saturday In San Antonio
Funeral services for Rufus A. Fuqua age 72 were held in San Antonio Saturday morning June 8 with burial there. He died at Baptist Hospital San Antonio Thursday evening after an extended illness.
