Kennedy Shot In California Ends In Critical Condition
The attempted assassination of Bobby Kennedy in Los Angeles Tuesday night became the chief topic in Stamford. Kennedy, celebrating his California primary victory, was shot three times in a kitchen corridor and was rushed to a hospital. Surgeons worked over three hours to remove bullets. one hit near the right ear entering the brain, another struck the shoulder, and a third grazed the forehead. He remained in extremely critical condition after surgery.

Camp Fire prepares for nearly 100 girls at Lueders camp
Ninety seven girls ages 8 to 15 attend Camp-Da-Ko hosted by Stamford Camp Fire Council at Lueders Baptist Encampment Grounds from June 10 to 14. Participants come from Hamlin Crane Haskell Grand Prairie and Stamford. Sixteen counselors a camp nurse and swimming instructor oversee activities including swimming hiking nature study crafts singing and cookouts with an all ages meal served in the cafeteria. Camp fees are 10 for Stamford Council girls and 22 for others, covering health and accident insurance and program activities.

Expanded Quarter Horse Show Planned at Cowboy Reunion
Final arrangements are being completed for the Texas Cowboy Reunion Quarter Horse Show to be held in Stamford on July 2, 3 and 4. Charles Stenholm chairs the event with AQHA approval. Youth Activities Day precedes registered entries, with divisions for ages 12 and under, 13 to 15, and 15 to 18. Events include halter, Western pleasure, reining, barrel racing, pole bending and flag racing. Trophies and ribbons awarded. jackpots of 80 to 90 percent of entry fees go to winners in other events. Stamford seeks bids for airport and street paving projects
Stamford invites bids to upgrade Arledge Field airport facilities and about eight blocks of city streets. Suit for Damages Filed After February Accident
Herman White of Jones County sues Vernon Howard of Haskell County for 25000 dollars in a personal injury suit filed in 164th District Court claiming Howard caused a February 4 1968 collision nine miles east of Hamlin on State Highway 92 while speeding over 100 mph and neglecting the paved road. Two Haskell County boys were killed in the crash.
